Special Committees

The Minns Committee is a joint committee of First Church and King’s Chapel, which sponsors the annual Minns Lectures. It includes the Senior Minister and three lay representatives from each congregation. The Minns Committee is financed by the annual income from a special bequest. The committee evaluates proposals, and plans and schedules the Minns Lectures. The purpose of the lectures is to present theological and historical perspectives on liberal religious thought; they have traditionally been presented in various parts of the country, including U.U.A. seminaries and major churches.

The South Friendly Committee distributes the income from various special endowments to a number of charitable endeavors in the Boston area.

The Trustees
The five Trustees hold the church buildings in trust for the congregation, oversee the church endowment, and, pursuant to the bylaws of the Society, receive gifts to the endowment. The Trustees use income from the endowment to pay for building maintenance, repairs and renovation. They also use income from the endowment to help support the church’s operating budget as adopted by the Standing committee. The Trustees work closely with the Standing Committee and serve as the church’s “institutional memory”.
