Spirit Play

Spirit Play classes meet Sunday mornings from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon in the classrooms of the John Winthrop School at 66 Marlborough Street. Parents are requested to register their children on the first visit and then to sign them in and out on subsequent visits. Special dietary, toileting or other needs can be accommodated. Parent orientations for Spirit Play are held throughout the year. Parents are also welcome, by prior arrangement, to observe a class at any time and may as classroom greeters.
Spirit Play is a Montessori based method for religious education for very young children. It provides continuity and structure while leaving plenty of room for children to explore at their own pace. Lessons are based on the seven principles of Unitarian Universalism, some stories from the sources of UU tradition and some lessons that allow the children to explore the liturgical traditions of our faith such as the Water Communion and the Flower Communion ceremonies. Each lesson stands alone so a child can attend as often as their schedules permit.
