Fundraiser for Pachangá
Pachangá’s first season shines with a musical tour to Massachusetts, featuring a 7:30 pm. concert on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at First Church in Boston.
An initiative by Guarionex Morales-Matos and Daniel Alejandro Tapia-Santiago, Pachangá is the first Puerto Rican a cappella ensemble solely devoted to the heritage of its national music. The program includes selections by Rafael Hernández, Sylvia Rexach, Bobby Capó and Pedro Flores, amongst many other luminaries who chiseled the Puerto Rican identity with their songs. As arranger, the work of Guarionex Morales-Matos permeates the project with unique individuality, while suggesting a reformulation for the harmonic approach to the classics in popular music. The event will also include brief dynamic discussions on the island’s traditional repertoire and genres of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as on the composers who brought them to life.
