"A Near Myth"

Stephen writes, "We UUs are generally seen as cool rationalists, people who are resistant to magic, superstition and myth. This is mostly true, but maybe not quite as true as we like to think--and in facing this, maybe we can become a more effective religious faith! The old saying is, "Myth is the crazy thing other people believe..."--but myth is trickier than we often realize. Joseph Campbell once said, in his interviews with Bill Moyers, that "A myth is not true or false--it is either alive or dead." What are our living and vibrant myths, the stories that fuel our sense of self and mission? And can we tap into mythic power without surrendering our sense of being people of a rational faith? See you Sunday!"
