Peter writes..."Ideas I'm working with: What does it mean that so many of us are drawn, at least at moments, to the idea of something (call it ultimate reality, God, Heaven, an ideal homeland, whatever) totally beyond our ability to imagine - and that at the same time we insist on trying to imagine it anyway? We want to have it both ways, it seems; theists for example want God to be totally transcendent and also totally immanent - what sense does that make?
