First Church Boston UU is seeking a dynamic Director of Music. Proficiency as choral director, accompanist, and organist required. The Director of Music works with staff, 12 member professional choir plus seasonal volunteer singers, and congregation to provide high quality music in a variety of traditions and styles that enriches worship and builds community. Selects, provides, and directs appropriate music for regularly scheduled 11:00 Sunday services September through June, and Christmas Eve, and schedules music for summer services. Weekly services are broadcast via Emerson College Radio WERS.

Oversees administrative responsibilities for the music program including budget, maintenance of instruments, organizing and purchasing music. Interpersonal skills very important. Creativity valued.

Half-time position with medical and retirement benefits, salary commensurate with Unitarian Universalist Association guidelines. Master of Music is required and doctorate or equivalent preferred. Minimum of five years as church Director of Music.

Instruments include well maintained 1972 Casavant Pipe Organ Opus 3140, 1972 Casavant Pipe Organ Opus 3129, Double Manual Flemish style Harpsichord, Steinway Model B, Steinway Model M, Yamaha Model U, Whitechapel Handbells (three octaves).
