Lara was born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. After graduating from the University of Virginia, she moved to Northern Virginia and began a career in education. She has taught in DC Public Schools and in schools in Fairfax and Loudoun counties. She completed her Masters degree in Education in 2009 at George Mason University. Lara first started working with Unitarian Universalist congregations in 2012 and, in doing so, discovered her own UU identity. She has served congregations in Manassas VA and Burke VA. Joining her at First Church will be her husband Rob and her 3 children: Matt (10), Ben (8), and Evelyn (3).
Lara enjoys writing and implementing progressive UU curricula for all ages. She also enjoys working with families to bring a sense of community to the RE programs and the congregations she serves. In her spare time Lara enjoys reading, napping, and engaging with families as a teacher/naturalist with the Audubon Society.
