Joan Whalen is responsible for the smooth running of the Church Office as well as Events and Facilities at First Church in Boston. She is the first point of contact for the church. Specific duties include, among others, publishing the paper newsletter and the weekly enewsletter, maintenance of the website, downloading podcasts, as well as all facilities rentals for outside usage at First Church.

Joan holds a graduate degree in Intercultural Training from Lesley University, Cambridge, MA, as well as a M.Phil in HIV/AIDS Management from Stellenbosch University, South Africa. 

A native South African, she resides in Newton, MA with her husband, Edward. She has a son at University of Delaware, and a daughter who lives in Los Angeles.
