Social Justice Committee

The Social Justice Committee activities:

Participation in the activities of the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization:
1. attendance at various Actions to implement the new health care legislation, especially on the issue of affordability;
2. Organizing a “Moving from Debt to Assets” class this spring with other GBIO churches in the Back Bay.
3. Holding a workshop at First Church, together with the Caring Network on the issue of Elder Care “Aging with Dignity” - both the preparation of individuals for aging and community advocacy.

Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry:
1. Sponsored the “Holicday Angels” - providing gifts for the youths at UUUM.
2. Held a Crafts Fair at First Church and provided volunteers at UUUM to help the youth prepare the crafts for sale at the Fair.
3. Establishing an Action for Justice Team at First Church to work with UUUM.
4. Sponsored a painting party at UUUM where volunteers from First Church and youths from the UUUM painted the dining room.

The Committee also sponsored the Social Justice Fair in the fall bringing organizations financially supported by First Church to exhibit their programs to members.
